UNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST PART (PART 4)

Genesis 11:1, 4, 6-8

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whosetop may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that

they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city.

There is no greater record of unity in the bible quite as fascinating as the story of Babel and if there is any lesson to learn, it is that a people united in understanding and purpose will always win, they can never fail as long as they remain united.

Humans would have built a tower to heaven (if God had not intervened) by sheer unity! Imagine such a feat! How much more can the body of Christ do if we are united? God is not looking for more denominations, He is not looking for more church buildings, though these are good things to have and build but they are worthless to Him when we cannot find a reason to come together for the one purpose for the Church on earth -Souls!

There are parts of the body: the head, heart, legs, hands, and so on but not one functions independently of the other parts of the body, everything works together, thus, producing the coordination of the human body we see and enjoy. Every cell in your body is working for the good of the body, not one is doing anything to jeopardize the body. They will work differently, look different, have different sizes, lengths, weights, one may appear more important and others not.

One body, different party, but not a single one is a decorative piece, not a single one can be discarded or is without use. The common ground is the health and general well-being of your body. With that understanding, every part works and the body’s general well-being is achieved. So, the church must find her common ground, she must have a common stand, all the parts of the body of Christ

must come together and when this is done, there is nothing that we cannot accomplish.

There is an immense power in unity. In Acts 2:1, on the day of Pentecost, the apostles were all in one accord,

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”

They were united in Christ and that same day, three thousand souls were baptized (Acts 2:41). Three thousand people in one day because they had received power after being united. Oh! what the Body of Christ is missing from being disunited! Oh, the power, the move of God we can experience when we come together, when every believer is your brother and sister, no matter how they look, how they pray, when they pray, when and how they study the Bible! There is no unity in confusion, strife, and contention. The body of Christ needs to unify and work together to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We cannot achieve this individually. God made it so. He put what we all need in each other, so, we can unify to reach the world as one. We must keep praying for the unity of the body of Christ so the church can fulfill her purpose on earth.

Even right now, pray these prayers;

Psalm 133:1
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for

brothers to dwell together in unity!

Father, in the name of Jesus, cause every part of the body of Christ to see the benefits of working in unity so that your purposes for the church will be achieved.

Ephesians 4:1-3

Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

Father, in the name of Jesus, help the body of Christ to remember the essence of our calling, show us how to walk in humility, gentleness, patience, and tolerance for one another that we may preserve the unity of the body of Christ. Hallelujah! Keep praying for the unity of the body of Christ.
